Nicaragua is the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere and for 10 years the NicaWorks team has been working in some of its most impoverished regions.
A few years ago we began searching for a way to create employment opportunities for orphaned teens and at-risk young Nicaraguans. The result was a bicycle shop at the Casa Bernabe Orphanage in Veracruz, Nicaragua.
So far, we have collected and shipped more than 7,000 donated bikes! Young Nicaraguans are trained in repairing and selling the bikes, as well as the fundamentals of running a small business.
